Our History

Phillips Academy & Theological Seminary was founded in 2000 by Rev. Dr. David P. Phillips in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. The institution was established with a vision to provide quality Christian education and leadership training.

Over the years, the institution has grown, received accreditation, and expanded its programs. In 2011, it was renamed to honor the heritage of the founder’s family. The school later moved to its current location in the Pocono region of Pennsylvania.

  • Began in 2000 as DPHILLIPS Christian School (Academy) in Tobyhanna, PA, founded by Rev. Dr. David Pierre Phillips.
  • 2004 – Received corporate charter from Pennsylvania Department of State.
  • 2009 – First Seminary President: Rev. Eugenio Salgado Williams, M.Div. Harvard 1997.
  • 2011 – Name changed to Phillips Academy & Theological Seminary to honor Native American grandparents.
  • 2012 – Moved to 3160 Route 611, Bartonsville, PA. First benefactor: Rev. Dr. David P. Phillips donated half his estate and entire library.
  • Registered with Pennsylvania Department of Education (2012).
  • Holds ISO & ANSI accreditation; full accreditation from Accrediting Commission International (ACI) for Master’s & Doctoral degrees (2013).
  • Important Note: Phillips Academy & Theological Seminary will not offer online classes. Students must be physically present.

Legal Status (from page 3): Integral part of Mt. Pocono House of Prayer For All People Inc. (501(c)(3) church). Exempt from Pennsylvania higher-education licensing under Act 1988-11 because it is a bona fide religious institution.

Mission & Doctrinal Statement

Doctrinal Statement:

  • Scriptures – Inerrant, infallible Word of God.
  • Sovereign God – One God: Jehovah of OT = Jesus Christ of NT = Holy Ghost today.
  • Sin – Total depravity.
  • Sacrifice – Substitutionary death & resurrection of Christ.
  • Salvation – Repentance, baptism in Jesus’ name, infilling of Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues.
  • Communion & Foot Washing – Church ordinances.
  • Sign-Gift Ministry – Five-fold ministry + nine spiritual gifts.
  • Divine Healing – In the atonement.
  • Church – Local pastor is the highest office on earth.
